Stage 16 Monday 6 Oct: Trefcon to Oestres (21kms/13m)

We decided that we needed a break from vast fields of sugar beets, forest paths and tiny towns with no sign of life let alone a cafe, and opted to walk into St Quentin for lunch, then walk out to Oestres where we’d left a car. We’re not complaining, the days have all been great but they’re a bit “samy”… Tomorrow we’ll start at Seraucourt-le-Grand, the original destination for today.

Taken from the car this morning
Roupy (and its pierced church tower) on the way back to the start at Trefcon.
(Barely visible) chicanes in Tertry … (voosh, voosh)
Leaving Trefcon
Long shadows
An unexpected field of sunflowers
And pumpkins near Attily!
Harvesting potatoes near Savy
Into the forest
Under the A26 motorway
Alongside the suburbs of Saint Quentin
Into the urban area
Town hall in the main square (Place de l’Hôtel de Ville)
Theatre Jean Vilar and Le Petit Chef (where we ate)
Salmon and risotto for the girls
Filet Mignon with frites and salad for the boys
Homage to Salvador Dali, spotted as we left the city centre. This mural was created as part of an urban art festival
Alongside the Canal de Saint Quentin
Beautiful …
… unless you look the other way

Back to Trefcon, then home for some down time, a light tea and a couple of hands of Euchre. We’ve played a few nights now (girls vs boys) … and it’s been a draw every night.
