Tuesday 4 November: Marrakech

A final treat this morning for Beth and I as we headed out of town for a hot air balloon ride to watch the sun rise over the High Atlas Mountains.

Lynn and Beth took a walking tour (Medina, Palaces & Tombs) in the old town. Sarah headed home at 3am. Loie headed to Ireland this afternoon but we got to spend a bit of time together over coffee (and bag shopping) after our balloon ride.

Lynn, Beth, Beth (Butt) and I took a train from Marrakech to Casablanca airport and from there the hotel shuttle to our hotel. We sampled the local McDonalds before hopping on the train.

Coffee while we wait to start
Elegant entry
Buzzing drones!!
A balloon not a thought bubble
In summer they can have up to 90 balloons flying at the same time, fewer today as the season rails off
The biggest ballon out there today… 28 people. Ours had a capacity of 16.
Altimeter… we reached 1000m above sea level/700m above the ground
Vent opened to deflate the balloon (envelope)

The most terrifying part of the day

Meanwhile, back at the hotel…

Coffee/tea with Loie demonstrating her “welcome tea” pouring talents

Off to the train station…

Marrakech train station
A crossing over the railway tracks at Casa Oasis (our change point) that we noticed after we had lugged all our very heavy luggage and copious bags down the stairs and back up again 🤨
Last Moroccan sunset
Last Moroccan moon…
Heading to the shuttle bus… tired, hot and grubby.

Dinner at our hotel…

Tomorrow the rest of us (Lyn/ns and Beths) fly home. It’s been amazing.

Just doing final pack… yummy zero sugar biscuits to take home… but someone’s had a little nibble somewhere along the line… and this time it wasn’t us!! 😂
