Stage 18b Thursday 9 Oct: Saint-Nicolas-aux-Bois to Laon (20km/12.5m)

Our guide book says… Resist any temptation to skip the uphill climb at stage end into medieval Laon, because is one of the most authentic medieval towns in France and one of the highlights of the Francigena. At its summit is the must-see Notre-Dame de Laon, a surviving wonder of the Middle Ages.

Hans, Lynn & Gary hiked up the hill to Laon, I took the day off walking so that I could attend a meeting, meeting them at the top of the hill for lunch and a visit to the Cathedral.
