Wednesday 14 October Palas de Rei to Melide (14.76 km / 9.17 mi)

A shorter day today, however we decided to leave early a) to experience the beautiful early morning light b) to avoid the heat.

But first, we had a superb breakfast at our hotel … coffee, mashed potato with caramelised onion and poached egg, fresh fruit, toast with homemade jam and fresh cheese.

A vigorous 15ish kilometres later we arrived in Melide, having walked through some pretty stunning scenery, and stopped only once at about 13km for cold drinks and shared tortilla.

Once in town we made sure the pulperia that has greeted us (Gary & me, not Beth) on previous arrivals was still there (it is) and then we headed to our hotel. It’s fabulous… I’d be happy to stay here a while longer! Spacious clean rooms, plentiful hot water, fabulous food in the restaurant downstairs, their own in-house lavendaria (laundry) that we obviously availed ourselves of and a spa where we indulged in a massage given the free time today. Our legs have thanked us already!
